Our Team – Dolphin Family

At the Dolphin the aim is to have a homely, family feel in everything we do and this is driven by the team, it is often referred to us as their “Dolphin Family”.

Highly qualified and experienced Owner/Manager Mellissa Bartlett leads the dedicated ‘family’ on a day to day basis, with back office support from Paul Bartlett who looks after the compliance and finance of the operation. Mellissa is not counted in any room numbers which allows her to move around the nursery offering support to the team as and when required.

We believe our team is vitally important to our business and our aim is to have a highly qualified team, over and above any legal requirements, most are paediatric first aid trained, and a ‘core’ of basic training is required on entry. Childcare qualified parents are always high on our list as we feel someone who is a parent themselves can handle situations in a more confident way, that’s not saying non parents can’t be just as good if not better of course.

New team members are given a formal induction into the nursery where they will be required to confirm their acceptance of the nursery Policies and Procedures and will also sign a copy of their contract of employment. The nursery obtains an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for everyone and a valid subscription to the update service is a required.

We welcome student placements into the nursery as they are the future of our industry, however we have strict procedures in place to ensure they not only get the best of their time with us, but they know what we expect of them.

Regular team meetings, termly supervision meetings and annual appraisals all allow for team members to discuss any issues that may arise, identify any training or development and generally ensure they are fully supported. Regular in-service training is available to all and we have an allocated budget to ensure that additional training suggested during the year is carried out promptly.

Together with the supervisors, a senior leadership team member is always on hand to support with any issues or concerns that may arise.

Mellissa – Owner/Manager

Mellissa and Paul opened Dolphin in August 2011 when Mellissa was working as a childminder.

The aim was to make Dolphin a home from home experience for children but based in a Nursery setting. ‘Making the Dolphin where good beginnings never end…..’

At home she has 3 children, Phoebe, Mikey and Annabel. No pets as yet but the children would love one 😂😂

At the weekends and in her spare time she likes to attend Bootcamp, going on walks and bike rides. Going out for nice food and spending time with her friends and family.

Paul – Owner

Paul spends most of his time either on Facebook or playing with his racing cars in the loft………. when he’s not doing that he is in charge of finance and compliance. Making sure all the admin and paperwork is up to date, dealing with any HR issues oh and paying the wages, so at least once a month everyone likes him.

Having been the only man working at Dolphin for so long, he often says he feels like the nagged husband for many of the team……. endless lists of jobs that need doing…….

Outside of life at Dolphin alongside juggling the busy social lives of 3 children, Paul enjoys running and keeping active. Having completed his first half marathon in 2019, alongside Team Dolphin, the bar has been raised for 2020 when they will be running an ultra marathon. Reschedule for October it will be 33 tough miles along the coast path from Kingswear to Shaldon.

Kyah – Deputy Manager

I’ve been along for the ride with Dolphin since day one! Always one for a challenge I have fulfilled a variety of roles from being Supervisor of the Baby Room, to managing our ‘sister’ setting Sunshine Pre-school which Mel & Paul took ownership of in 2014.  Most recently I’m Deputy Manager at Dolphin, where I can be found most days in the office and have got used to being called Mel, as has Mel being called Kyah due to the fact that we both look very similar!

I may appear as being very active on Facebook but this is largely due to one of my tasks of being in charge of social media and active campaigns. I also keep both teams at Dolphin and Sunshine up to date with training and courses in all aspects of childcare.  Outside of Dolphin I’m a busy mum to two beautiful little divas (I don’t know who they could possibly take after!)

Corinna – Little Dinos Supervisor

Corinna joined The Dolphin in 2015, initially working as a 1-2-1 for a little one with complex needs. Then moving into our little Dino’s room as a nursery nurse and has recently become the room supervisor.

With her team she enjoys settling in our newest members of the Dolphin Family, working closely with their parents and important role of bonding with them as they join the Dolphin family.

Corinna is a mum to 3 girls which keep her busy when she is not at work.

Corinna enjoys in her spare time taking the family dog for a walk, spending time with her friends and family.

Aimie – Little Explorers Supervisor

Aimie joined the Dolphin family in March 2018. Before joining the Dolphin she worked at Brixington School for 6 years in the FFU.

She started as a Nursery Nurse and has recently taken over the role as Little Explorers Supervisor.

Aimie is one of four children at home, she is the eldest with two younger Sisters and a younger Brother.

Not long ago Aimie brought her first house, you will probably find her there most weekends in her PYJAMAS!!!! Aimie’s favourite car is a mini.

Aimie enjoys travelling to hot countries with her family.

Lucy – Busy Bees Supervisor

I have been working in child care since 16 and before joining the Dolphin family I worked at a pre-school where I completed my level 3 in child care.

I joined the lovely Dolphin family in Feb 2018 starting off as a nursery nurse working in Little Explorers and recently became Busy Bees Supervisor which I was very excited about becoming.

At home I have 2 children who I adopted and have both attended Dolphin. I love spending time with my family and friends and making lots of memories. I also love anything Disney.

Sian – Pre-school Supervisor

I joined Dolphin at the start of 2017 after having my first little boy. I then got married and started studying towards my formal Childcare qualification. After completing my Level 2 I then went on to gain my Level 3 during 2018 which also saw the arrival of my second little boy.

During 2020 I moved from my beloved Busy Bee room into Pre-school to become Acting Supervisor whist Amy is covering the SENDCO role.

I love family days with my boys, husband and all the family. I always enjoy going on holidays or little breaks away and meeting up with friends.
