Meet the family

At the nursery we aim to use as many qualified staff as possible over and above any legal requirements, we believe that good staff are important to our business. Qualified staff who are parents are also a high priority to us as we feel staff who are parents themselves can handle situations in a more confident way. It is hoped this will give parents more confidence when leaving their child(ren) with us.


Nursery Manager Mellissa is not counted in any room numbers which allows her to move around the nursery offering support to staff as and when required. Regular staff meetings, termly supervision meetings also annual staff appraisals are carried out. All of which allow staff to discuss any issues that may arise and also training or development needs they feel they may have. Regular in-service training is available to all staff and we have an allocated budget to ensure that additional training suggested during the year is carried out promptly.


At the Dolphin the aim is to have a homely, family feel to everything we do. Some of the team even refer to us as their "Dolphin Family".

Staff are given a formal induction into the nursery where they will be required to confirm their acceptance of the nursery Policies and Procedures and will also sign a copy of their contract of employment. The nursery obtains an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for all staff, ideally confirmation of this is received before they start work, and if this is not possible then they will not be left alone with children until it is received. Most staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid along with Food Safety Level 1. Copies of all certificates are displayed within the reception area of the nursery.
