At the Dolphin the aim is to have a homely, family feel in everything we do and this is driven by the team, it is often referred to us as their “Dolphin Family”.
Highly qualified and experienced Owner/Manager Mellissa Bartlett leads the dedicated ‘family’ on a day to day basis, with back office support from Paul Bartlett who looks after the compliance and finance of the operation. Mellissa is not counted in any room numbers which allows her to move around the nursery offering support to the team as and when required.
We believe our team is vitally important to our business and our aim is to have a highly qualified team, over and above any legal requirements, most are paediatric first aid trained, and a ‘core’ of basic training is required on entry. Childcare qualified parents are always high on our list as we feel someone who is a parent themselves can handle situations in a more confident way, that’s not saying non parents can’t be just as good if not better of course.
New team members are given a formal induction into the nursery where they will be required to confirm their acceptance of the nursery Policies and Procedures and will also sign a copy of their contract of employment. The nursery obtains an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for everyone and a valid subscription to the update service is a required.
We welcome student placements into the nursery as they are the future of our industry, however we have strict procedures in place to ensure they not only get the best of their time with us, but they know what we expect of them.
Regular team meetings, termly supervision meetings and annual appraisals all allow for team members to discuss any issues that may arise, identify any training or development and generally ensure they are fully supported. Regular in-service training is available to all and we have an allocated budget to ensure that additional training suggested during the year is carried out promptly.
Together with the supervisors, a senior leadership team member is always on hand to support with any issues or concerns that may arise.
